happy food year!
so i was watching the tv show “diners, drive-ins, and dives” marathon on the food network tonight and a specific episode caught my attention “regional favorites episode dv0303″ which originally aired nov. 28, 2008.

they had a segment on a place called “charlie parker’s” in springfield, illinois who’s specialty is the “horseshoe sandwich” which reminded me of a certain blogroll member with an affinity for “country fried steak” and who recently called out the borleezie blog for inactivity in one of his posts. the horseshoe sandwich is the signature dish of springfield, illinois and it has hundreds of variations, there’s also a “breakfast shoe”. if i had to drescibe it i would call it an open faced, country fried steak sandwich covered with poutine, but here’s the official descrption from wikipedia:

it felt like i was gaining weight just watching the segment on charlie parker’s and i might have clogged an artery, actually watching every episode of diners, drive-ins, and dives makes me feel like i’m clogging an artery, it made me feel like going springfield just to try a horseshoe, but if you have been and tried or want to put your comments up.

i still think the most artery clogging sandwich I’ve seen is the Bacon Cheeseburger with a Krispy Kreeme Donut for a bun….from the Google NY cafeteria. and given the opportunity i would eat it …just to try it…..but keep a defibrillator near by and charged up.
i think we should have a road trip to chicago one weekend. but i’d split that sandwich with someone…sounds crazy…but so good at the same time!!

PS are the Canadians the only ones representing this thing? what up Cali???!!!
yeah i remember that email you sent with the pic of the krispy kreme donut bacon cheesburger and it always makes me shudder in disgust thinking about it, i have no interest in trying one and we have every opportunity to try it by getting a donut from krispy kreme and a cheeseburger from anywhere and putting them together, i like kk donuts and cheesburgers but not together, what’s better than ice cream and pie right? so why not put ice cream on pizza pies? here’s why, it’s because we’re not buddy the elf or 10 years old anymore, there’s a way to get the salty sweet combo like kettlecorn pocorn, chocolate covered pretzels (chocolate covered anyting really but i think that has more to do with me liking chocolate, the darker the better), or even your chocolate chip cookies with sea salt (which i think you should make superthick so they come out of the oven crispy on the outside and soft and doughy on the inside). however, i’m seriously considering making a horseshoe the next time i’m at burger king by ordering a double whopper and poutine then put them together or better yet the first time i go to craft burger on king st.
it wasn’t me calling you guys out was it? maybe its jay. my cousin called me out so i’m paying it forward. great posts guys. yeah man, we were discussing food network shows and how my sister in law’s nephews were are 7 watch it and love food, they are overweight possibly. they can eat two double big macs. i read about craft burger, seems good. oh that show is the best; diners, drive-ins and dives.
man, i was thinking about going to chicago ’cause they got mexican food, hot dogs, pizza. clog those arteries.
k kuya arn let me know when you want to go for craft burger…it’s supposed to be really delicious there!! but it has to be a day when we BOTH forget our lunches…lol and YAY for ba-on!
